What I Plan To Achieve
For my final shoot I will be focussing on the 1910s. I have chosen this decade as it is 100 years ago from today, and so I will therefore be able to show the stark difference in beauty trends over the last 10 decades. When I did the 1910s for my first preparatory shoot, I used a very natural make up look. However, since doing more research, I found that make up during this decade was a lot heavier and so I will try to represent this more accurately. In order to stay true to the decade, I will refer back to the work of Alfred Cheney Johnston as he worked with showgirls in the 1910s and so this will show me a clear example of make up trends at the time. Looking back at Johnston's work will also help me when it comes to editing my images as it is a clear example of how images looked in the 1910s, and therefore how I should be making my images look.
What I Actually Achieved

Studio Set Up:
I feel that this shoot was very successful and that I achieved exactly what I wanted to. As a result, I am very pleased with my final images. I believe that my success in this shoot is largely a result of referring back to Johnston's work. As I had images beside me to gather inspiration from, I was able to create images that were not only aesthetically pleasing but were also accurate to the time period I was representing. I did not encounter any problem within this shoot and I feel that this is due to my practice with this set up - as I have now experienced shooting this style of photographs with this set up many times, I know how to make everything go as smoothly as possible. I am very happy with how I edited my images as with this series I added a lot of grain and blur in order to make it look as old as possible. I also learned that noise had colour in and so, with this shoot, I added the noise before making the image black and white to desaturate this as well as the image.
This is one of my best images from the shoot. With the pose, I took inspiration from one of Alfred Cheney Johnston's images as, in a lot of his work, the model is looking away from the camera. Also, by having my model look down, you focus more on her make up and overall look as the eyes are usually the focal point of an image. I really enjoy the levels of contrast and differing tones in this image as I feel that they are not too strong, however there is still enough to bring attention towards the lighter portions of the image (her face and necklace).
This image is one that I did not feel worked as well with the rest of the images from this shoot. There is not anything unique happening in this image and I feel that it is very posed compared to others, which means that it is not as visually pleasing and does not stand out against the rest as being very interesting. I also feel that, due to the focal length and tones in the image, the viewer cannot get a good feel of either the outfit or the make up, which are the main elements on not just this image but the shoot as a whole.
